Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas

I got pulled over a few months ago and the officer told me my license was suspended for failure to pay a past ticket. I knew nothing about an unpaid ticket so i was unaware my license was suspended. I paid the unpaid ticket and the ticket for driving on a suspeneded license. When i asked about the status of my DL i got told it was to be suspended until july 2012. I am active duty military and cant be with out my license for that long! Do I still have the option of pleaing my case to a judge and suggest a different form of punishment? Some one please help me!

Call the agency that issued your driver's license and explain your situation to them and ask them what you have to do to clear your license. They should tell you. Or try going online for that same agency. In Texas it is called the Department of Public Safety. MOst if not all states now require a "reinstatement fee" as well as paying what you paid. Until you pay this "reinstatement fee" your license will stay suspended. This may be what is causing your D.L. to show suspended. Lastly, in many states, a conviction for Driving While LIcense Suspended brings an automatic suspension on top of what already existed. So you may have a new suspension based on your conviction on the DWLS charge.
