Legal Question in Immigration Law in Texas

I was born on the u.k. Both of my biological parents are british born. However my mother married an american man whom was in the military and brought us over to the states where we were stationed in san antonio. It was here that he retired.according to my step father he took care of all the required paper work in order to allow me legal entry into the states.going through the proper channels; I.E british consulate and the u.s. embassy, in addition to the military. thinking all was taken care of. At the time i was a minor so i was'nt worried about it. untill recently. I got into some trouble as a teen and went to prison for eleven years. I was released with no INS holds or detainers. I went to college whilst there. was once visited by the B.C. and was told they had to ask my permission to act because i was out of their jurisdiction because according to their information i was a naturalized citizen. this added to my assurance that i was naturalized. however since being home i have found that their is a discrepeny in my status and its made it hard ain attaining Identification and employment. according to my step father i do have a A#. however, uscis couldnt find one on me. my question is how can i go about locating a papertrail to see if the process was handled correctly. the dates were looking at are from 1988-present.who can i contact to attain this information? thank you for your time. If i had the capital i would be glad to pay for the service you all are providing, but at this time because of my situation not working and all its almost impossible. anyway thanks again.

What is your mother's status? Did you mother naturalize and become a USA citizen? If yes, when (and how old you were at that time)?

Yes, it could be possible to verify an immigration status through FOIA request.
