Legal Question in Immigration Law in Texas

Im an iraqi citizen 27years male on j-1 granted by us corporate and I have to leave the states by may 31,2010. I would to apply to asylum as soon as possible as i can this as my only chance for being legal after may 31 .my mult entry visa will end in june 24th. but i signed a contract to leave to home country if finished or discontinued my scholarship. My scholarship was discontinued in may 20th. as for me im a phd student who was accepted by this scholarship. My GPA is 3.67 but i have to leave due to discontinuation of visa to iraq.

As for me im a turkoman from kirkuk, culturally mixed and controlled now by kurds in iraq. I worked with us army as a translator for 4months after undergrad in 2004 . The military base was targeted and I and other soliders were targetted by insurgents by mortors ,ak47 and we often checked road side bombs. I left my job with 2 recommandations due to being chased in our family car twice. Went to turkey, got master with 3.79 , did not leave to iraq except for 10days each two years or so. I used syria once to meet with family as the kurdish border from north was hassasing me for studying in turkey as . after graduating i waited a semester as special student until i got scholarship visa. What are the chances of my asylum application being accepted before may 31?

Asylum application can be filed at any time. By law, it has to be done within one year after arriving in the United States. If Asylum office denies asylum application, an applicant then referred for further review to Immigration Court.
