Legal Question in Immigration Law in Texas

Hi there,

I am going to become a US citizen (Oath taking ceremony on March 3rd) soon. I would like to sponsor my mother for the green card.

Luckily she is visiting me here in Houston (on Visit visa from Pakistan). I would like to know the following.

1) Are there any advantages of applying for her green card while she is in US as oppose to apply for her when she is in Pakistan?

2) What is the approximate time it takes to get the green card? Is it different if she is in US or Pakistan?

3) She is planning on staying here with me for another month or so and then shell go back home.

4) Once she gets the green card how often she has to visit US to keep her green card status valid?

Thanks for your time in advance.

Your questions require too much time to answer on a free legal forum. I suggest, you schedule a consultation with an attorney. I'll answer just some of the questions. Yes, she can apply for adjustment of status when you are a USA citizen, OR can apply for an immigrant visa through consular processing. However, whether it's beneficial for her should be decided by looking at a whole picture (e.g. her travel plans, her life arrangements in Pakistan, her future travel plans to USA, etc). If eligible and not inadmissible, adjustment of status can be completed in 4-6 months.
