Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Texas
Is it illegal to write music with chords and lyrics for Q Chord using ovals to represent the buttons on the Q Chord? This type of sheet music is not available and I find many people enjoy using the button sheet music that I create.

The Suzuki QCHORD song card digital guitar is a neat instrument. It would be legal to write original music for it, with cords or lyrics and buttons, and the real question would be whether your use of ovals would infringe any patent or trademark rights of Suzuki with respect to that "button style" music. You would not want to make unauthorized use of any Suzuki trademarks or slogans (e.g. "IQ, Do U?") I would need to see the actual sheet music put out by both Suzuki and you to know, but I doubt that it would pose any legal problem. You would need to be clear that your button sheet music is not affiliated with or sponsored by Suzuki and that it is original and then you should be okay legally. The important thing is to not look like you are stealing anything from Suzuki if you want to stay under their radar. You really should consult an intellectual property lawyer versed in patents, trademarks and copyrights as all 3 may be at play (a pun)here. Call me if you need legal advice rather than this non-legal courtesy answer.
