Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Texas
I've written about 8 or 9 songs for my aunt's debut album, what should I do to make sure that i get paid royalties?

Are there any agreements/contracts in place between you and your aunt?
A royalty agreement would be an ideal way to ensure your rights to both your intellectual property in the songs and the royalties due to you.
Also, since you wrote the songs, you may register a copyright in the songs.
Kind regards,
James

Franchise Attorney I agree with the other attorney answer. Don't trust the word of a family member that you will be paid. Get it in writing - a royalty payment agreement. Also it's very smart for you, the author of the songs, to register copyrights. That should be part of the royalty agreement - that you own the copyright to the songs and she has the right to use them only if she pays royalties. Consult with a good business or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.
