The USA prohibits importation of rough diamonds from Sierra Leone, Liberia and all other conflict zones. There is the USA law called 'Clean Diamond Trade Act', which intends to stop the trade of "blood diamonds" or "conflict diamonds" coming from different conflict zones in many African countries. Therefore, there is no absolute ban on trade in precious stones and metals, but prohibition pertaining to stones mined in conflict zones.
