Legal Question in Employment Law in Texas

Hello my name is Jessica and I am seeking some kind of help, I was working at a daycare and they temp laid me off because of it not being enough kids to pay me my salary. When I talkin to the Assistant Director monday and asked her about my check since they had laid me off if I could get it early because I know some places are like that they lay you off and you can get ur check before your regular pay day, with that being said the assistant director told me that since I was temp laid off that I was still on the payroll so that I could pick my check up at the same time on 8/13/2010 which is today, when I called today to ask if I could pick it up early she tells me that my check was just being mailed today. My question is what can I do about my check with her tellin me that I could pick it up today and even at that why weren't the checks maild out so that I could receive it today. And also when I asked for the Head Directors number to call and talk to her the Ass director tells me that shes not going to give me her number. Because she was not availabe till tuesday. What can I do?

Call the Texas Workforce Commission and apply for unemploymnet today..the company may not have the money to pay you .and it will take a long time to get paid if they can't
