Legal Question in Employment Law in Texas
I work in a day spa in Texas booking appointments for therapists and selling retail items. Whenever a retail item goes missing, for whatever reason, or if I misbook an appointment, my boss charges me for the item or the appointment. So far this year, I have been charged about $550 for my perceived "mistakes." Is it legal for my boss to do this?

You didn't mention if the employer is deducting the charges from your wages. If so, here is the relevant section of the Texas Labor Code: 61.018. DEDUCTION FROM WAGES. An employer may not
withhold or divert any part of an employee's wages unless the
employer:
(1) is ordered to do so by a court of competent
jurisdiction;
(2) is authorized to do so by state or federal law; or
(3) has written authorization from the employee to
deduct part of the wages for a lawful purpose.
Acts 1993, 73rd Leg., ch. 269,  1, eff. Sept. 1, 1993.
