my husband has been recieving survivor benefits from a deseased parent for many years.he was recently sent a denial letter that said he had to pay back the last four years that he has been married.but i have been his payee as his wife this entire time.and we informed them four years ago we were married.now they are telling us after four years he was not supposed to recieve these benefits.i would like to know how they can have not told us this to begin with.how we could be responsible when we were never informed and what we can do about it now.i feel this is terribly wrong.all help would be greatly apreciated in this matter.

You should contact a Social Security lawyer right away and see if you can appeal this decision. Sometimes they make mistakes. But please sea a lawyer - not someone who is an unlicensed, but admitted to practice before the SSA. Many of those people are really good, but at least with a lawyer, you can rely on his license.
