Probation on a will

Do you have to go through an attorny to get the will probated or can you just settle the estate yourself?

The will has to be probated in court. If you know how to do that, you don't need an attorney. Don't expect the judge to help you. That's not his job.

An interested individual, such as the named executor or a named beneficiary, can enter the will into probate without an attorney. You need a judge to 'settle an estate'; that's not something an individual can do without probate.

Try it. You'll see why attorneys get paid for handling probate matters.
