Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in United Kingdom

Can I get legal assistance

I have leant my ex partner over GBP17 000.00 to start a business in the UK and also to cover some living costs. About GBP 4 400.00 of that is owed on my credit card and overdraft. I have returned to South Africa. He is now no longer responding to request to pay the amounts on my credit card & overdraft. I do have a letter that he signed stating that he owes me (at that time it was) GBP 14 000.00 odd and with a re-payment structure. I also have records of the invoices that I paid regarding his business and obviously my bank statement records. What legal steps can I take to get him to pay me back? I am not in a position to pay the amounts back from SA and would alos not necessarily incur further high legal costs. please can you help me.

I fear that the only way you will recover this money is through court action. You have little alternative other than to issue proceedings in the UK County Court where it would appear that there can be little defence to your claim. Once you have judgement it will be possible to enforce payment in a number of ways.

We will be happy to assist you in bringing proceedings if required.
