You should repost the question under your state with the subject wills, trusts to obtain state specific information.

In any event, if this were in the states where I am licensed, the beneficiaries are not responsible for any debts of the decedent. In fact, depending on the terms of the trust, the trust may not be responsible either. In other words, frequently, when a person dies with no assets, the creditors are out of luck. Nevertheless, creditors often try to guilt the survivors into paying the decedents' debts. You should fall for it.
