Legal Question in Criminal Law in Utah

I received a class B Misdemeanor in Salt Lake City Utah for interfering with an investigation. The ticket tells me I need to appear in court in 14 days from the date it was issued. I am innocent of the crime I was written up for and want to plea not guilty. The ticket was given for a very wrong reason and is almost comical that it happened at all. When I appear in court on this 14th day do I need an attorney to plea not guilty. Do I just show up and say not guilty or is there more I need to look in to?

Just go and plead "Not Guilty." You can see if you qualify for a public defender. If you do not, they will give you time to find an attorney. You can attempt to talk to the prosecutor, but he may not be likely to completely dismiss it. He may make an offer that you should consider though, but that is why it helps to have an attorney.
