Legal Question in Immigration Law in Utah
I am a male American born citizen of the U.S. I went to Bolivia in Feb. of 2000, Met and then later married a Bolivian citizen from La Paz in April of 2001. We came to the U.S. in Aug. 2005 because of the political instability of the country and for my safety. My wife received an immediate green card, then one year later achieved her status as an American citizen. We brought her daughter under 21 with us. She has a son now 27 years old who couldnt come with us because he was over 21. He came to the U.S. and served a mission here in 2002. Returned back to Bolivia in 2004. We have sent in an I-130 petitioning him for immigration status. He is unmarried. How long does the process take for him to acquire an immigrant visa? And what are some pointers for both us as parents and for him as a petitioning alien to accelerate this process? And any other particulars that might help us better accelerate this process. Any help provided would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely, Christopher Draper, Utah

Christopher,
For an unmarried son of a US citizen from Bolivia, it currently takes about 6 years wait (June priority date is Nov 2004). When the priority date becomes current, and he applies for an immigrant visa, the process usually takes an additional few months, depending on how fast you can prepare and submit required forms and documents, and how soon the interview for him can be scheduled.
