Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

virginia credit card debt

I know the statute of limitations is 3 years for oral and 5 years for written debt but what is credit card debt considered in the State of Virginia and are there any special credit card debt laws in this state.

Re: virginia credit card debt

The applicable SOL to credit card debt

under an agreement governed by the laws of the Commonwealth is five years from the breach of the contract governing the use of the card(ususally found in the application). The breach is measured from the last date when a payment was due(and not made)or services were provided for which no payment was rendered.

Credit cards are governed under the Commonwealth's law of contract. There appear to be no special provisions or statutory enactments under the civil code which specifically relate to credit cards or their use.
