Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Divorce Attorney not finishing divorce

Filed for divorce a year ago. Court date was 6 months ago. Judge said I did not have to return but my attorney needed to investigate some kind of jurisdiction issue because I am in Florida and husband is incarcerated in Virginia. Attorney has still not completed the divorce but was paid a year ago. Contacted the court and they say I have to talk to the attorney. Attorney is not returning phone calls or email messages. Not sure how to proceed at this point. How do I get this attorney to finish the job?

You should send the attorney a certified letter(return receipt requested)putting this non-reponder on motice that unless he or she

responds to your requests in a satisfactory manner by a date certain that you you will have no choice but to report the matter to bar counsel.

If the attorney is licensed in Virginia you can glean all of the information necessary for this reporting process from the Virginia State Bar Web site located at www.vsb.org.

Then, if the silent one persists in his or her taciturness, make sure you follow through with

what's been recommended.
