Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Can a lawyer do this?

I have spoken with the settlement attorney about the release of the escrow. We are requesting that the judgment for $1,290 in attorneys' fees (a copy of which is attached for your reference) be deducted from the $2,500 due to you which would net $1,210 to you. The fastest way for the funds to be released will be for you to authorize this. Otherwise, we will have to proceed with garnishing the funds being held in escrow which will not only delay the release of funds but will also increase costs that will be deducted from the $2,500.

We need to know more details than this. What kind of escrow is this? If there is a court judgment -- a decision has already been made in court -- that you owe $1,290 (for whatever reason) than the "judgment creditor" can collect on the court judgment in many ways, including "garnishing" funds held in a bank account or other fund, like an escrow account.
