Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Does a single mother have to go to court to have a judge give them legal sole custody before getting a passport for the child? Even if the single mother was never married to the father and he does not, visit or pay child support or has never lived in the same house since the child was born?

Best to check with the U.S. State Department website to determine exactly what's

required for a person in your situation to be issued a passport for your

minor child.(would be my advice).
