Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia

my daughter was convicted on a misdemeanor shoplifting charge. We paid the court fine and her probation period has passed with no problems. No merchandize actually left the store. We are now being contacted by a law firm, demanding money, not up to $400, for civil restitution. Apparently, this is a common practice

my daughter has no money or job to generate any money.

my question is will Wall Mart actually bring my daughter to court and if she is still not able to pay could she be sent back to jail?

Your daughter could respond to this law firm with a letter explaining that she is currently

without money or a job to pay for such a demand and that she has already

paid the court fine and completed her probation period. (Whatever copies of documents

affirming this that could be attached to this letter might also prove useful in resolving

this matter.)
