Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia

Let a friend borrow$300 to have their car fixed when they were broke down out of town. Was assured to be paid back the $300 plus an additional$50 for my trouble. Have the text messages back and forth. Is that enough to take to court or should I just cut my losses and move on.
