Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia

Should i get a lawyer

I recieved a warrant in debt in the mail the other day, and apparently my roommate is suing me. About two months ago i came home to notice that he had just moved out without telling me, now he is suing me for ''constructive eviction of cotenant and property damage''. I image the property damge is refering to a tv that he thinks i broke. My landlord did not put much credibility in his story and would not let him out of the lease, so now he is paying two leases. Since he has no evidence concerning this tv and he just took his stuff and left without telling me he was moving. Does he really have a case or should i get a lawyer. please respond. thanks

Re: Should i get a lawyer

Sure, he "has a case", otherwise you would not not recently have been served with papers. However, if you mean to ask, is it likely that he has a winnable case, based upon the facts that you've described, the answer, must be: not very likely. (And no, you should not need a lawyer. Just show up for court and and reiterate to the judge the written answer to the charge which by then you should've filed with the court.)
