Legal Question in Immigration Law in Virginia

I am a British citizen i met overseas and married a us navy member in 1990 in VA .We have been married 20 years this Dec 17TH but due to violent nature of marraige i returned to the UK in 1996 the military assisted in this i would like to return to the usa i have a ss number have worked and paid taxes my children also have ss numbers and attended school in VA (they do not wish to return at this time) my husband refused to get me a green card at the time we were together in hind sight this was another control issue on his part is there anyway i can try to get my green card now with or without his help ??

Yes, you might be able to self-petition for a green card under a special federal law - VAWA. You need a good immigration lawyer who specializes in VAWA cases. A lawyer can be from any State as this is a matter of federal law.
