Legal Question in Immigration Law in Virginia
Hello,
I was a permanent resident in the US for over 25 years. I left the country year and a half ago to attend to my mother, who had terminal illness. Unfortunately, I did not apply for the extension of my green card. Also, on the day I was leaving, I was given a traffic ticket for driving on suspended license (I did not know that it was suspended). As my mother's health deteriorated, emotions got the best of me and decided not to come back. In any event, it has been 18 months since my departure and I believe that a warrant may have been issued for my arrest due to the driving on suspended license (I simply could not be at the court due to my absence from the country).
My wife-to-be is a US citizen and I need some guidance as to what are the appropriate steps to take to enter the US again and how does an outstanding warrant (a misdemeanor) affect my chances of re-entering the country legally. Thank you in advance for your time as I sincerely appreciate it.
