Legal Question in Immigration Law in Virginia

I'm wondering if there will be any complications if a US Green

Card holder proceeds with his Canadian PR application (meaning having

his passport stamped, landing in Canada, and returning to the US). As I

understand it, the Canadian side won't care as long as their residency

requirements (two out of five years in Canada) are met. How severe are

the consequences if at the US port of entry a Canadian immigration visa

stamp is discovered inside the passport (considering that the person can

prove that he still lives and works in the United States)? How bad of

an impact would it have when one is applying for US citizenship (the

passport with the visa stamp would have expired by then)? Has anyone

had a similar experience?

The position of the US federal immigrant law is that a person can't have permanent residency in two countries at the same time.
