Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

Fired for lack of respect

Hello, i have been fired for violating the ''treating others with respect'' rule, ( a racial joke taken out of text)

When called to the boss's office, i was asked to write a statement of what happen. In doing so, i mentioned thing that has happened from my accuser. My 2 managers said they knew nothing about it and i should not put it in my statement because it could look like retaliation. Even my Immediate superviser (not the boss) says he doen't see why this happend. I didn't deserver to be fired. My work is great and so is my evals. Something doesn't add up. Any advice? Thank you for your time.

Re: Fired for lack of respect

Unless you were working under a contract or collective bargaining type agreement which afforded you protection from summary dismissal by your employer, in an employment at will jurisdiction such as the Commonwealth you can be terminated for virtually any reason which doesn't implicate federal anti- discrimination laws, including a misperceived disrespecting of others (or for no reason at all).
