Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

I live in Martinsville, VA and own my home. I let my half-brother stay at my home so he could get on his feet and now he will not leave. He has destroyed the property and I want him gone. Do I have to evict or can I just call the law and have him removed? He has never paid anything to live here.

Yes, you will most likely have to evict him following the legal procedures required in

your local general district court as any other landlord would have to do to evict a noncompliant

tenant.

And, furthermore, if you were to "call the law" regarding this situation, its representatives would likely

tell you that it's a civil rather than a criminal matter and decline to become involved.
