Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in Virginia
Harassment outside the workplace
I work with a woman and we formed a friendship in the workplace. I would joke around with this person as would a lot of other people in regards to her looks and body. She would even comment on things herself in regards to her own body. Well one day I sent a text asking her to wear a certain pair of pants to work and she did. When I did this it was after work hours and off of company property. A week later she files a complaint against me at work and I got talked to about it. My question is can I get fired for something that happened off company property and off company hours?

Re: Harassment outside the workplace
Sure, since in an employment at will jurisdiction such as the Commonmealth, if you're working without the protection of an employment contract or collective bargaining type of agreement, you can be terminated for almost any reason at any time which doesn't violate federal anti-discrimination laws.
