Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia

I received a failure to obey a traffic signal ticket and I want to try and get it dropped. I am trying to to join the police department and this ticket will ruin that. Before court I am taking a driver improvement course and I will take the certificate to court and I will also bring the application I already filled out to court with me. I want to plead guilty and take accoutability. Do you think these are good movements to take to try and get it dropped off my record so it will not ruin my chances of becoming a police officer?

A better approach for your situation would be to make inquiry of the person

representing the commonwealth (whether the ticketing officer or the local prosecutor assigned) as to whether you might attend a driver improvement

course approved by the court in lieu of entering a plea of guilty. (You would do

this before your case is called before the judge.)

The City of Alexandria is one of the jurisdictions in NoVa that allows

for this kind of disposition and there may be others.

Once you plead guilty, you can be assured that nothing will be "dropped off

(your) record".
