Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia

Speeding

I received a ticket for speeding. 10-19 miles per hour above the posted speed. I have 5 safe driving points on my dmv record. I think i should just pay this as its only 4points. Or go to court and request take traffic school to drop the ticket and just pay court cost. Advise.

Re: Speeding

There is no connection between going to court and going to driving school. The court will not have any involvement in that (usuualy), and you don't need to go to court to go to driver's school. Simply go to the DMV and get a list of approved driver's schools. Sign up some Saturday for $60 to $100, and get +5 points. Make sure that the program is one that qualifies for the +5 poitns. This can only be done every so often, though. I think only once every 2 years.

Now, if you really don't think you were going that fast, you can try to cut a deal with the prosecutor to split the difference. Your good record will help.
