Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia
Virginia Speeding Ticket
I recieved a speeding ticket while traveling through Virginia, about a month ago. The officer said that I was going 81MPH which results it being a charge of reckless driving. Since I live out of state and cannot afford to go back to court in Virginia to fight this charge. I have the option to request a trial in absence, What is the best way to fight this charge? I have obtained my driving record which is clean. I would like to submit to the court in my absence a well structured letter fighting this charge. Can you help?

Re: Virginia Speeding Ticket
That charge is a class one misdemeanor that carries a penalty of up to 12 months in jail and $2,500. Typically, unless you have a lawyer negotiate something in advance you will have to be present to deal with case. On speeding charges that don't rise to the level of reckless you have the option of having a trial in your absence.
