my mother died intestate, leaving me 1/2 of a home. my uncle, her brother died testate leaving his half to my estranged daughter. Can I force her to buy my half out or to sell the home and divide the money?

You can force the sale by filing a partition case with the court, asking the court to determine the respective interests of the parties (50/50 in your case), the value of the property, whether either party is willing and able to purchase the other party's interest, and if not, appointing a commissioner of sale to sell the property and distribute the proceeds.
