Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in Washington
Sexual harassment
My wife is a OA and her Office Manager is being harassed by the Managing Director of a State office. He has made endless comments about the size her breast, sweaters she wears. This seams to be getting worse for Christmas he bought her purfume, now today he approached her from behind and began rubbing her shoulders. My wife is ready to walk into his office and tell him off, i assume she would get fired in the spot. We have advised the office manager to hire a attorney, but being she is a single mother she is concerned about all that is involved...
Any advise would be great.
If my wife is fired for saying this any help...

Re: Sexual harassment
What a terrible situation!! Your wife's best bet would be to make a complaint to human resources, and to be sure to do it in a way that is documented (either an email that she prints out and keeps a copy of, or with an actual memo). She also can certainly tell the Managing Director that she feels his behavior is inappropriate for the office.
The law protects not only the direct target of such sexual harassment, but also anyone else who a) is offended by it and complains or b) tries to protect the target of the harassment. This means it would be illegal for your wife to get fired, as long as she attempts to follow the employer's anti harassment policy. Naturally, I can't guarantee that the employer *won't* fire her, but I can tell you it is illegal!
