Legal Question in Business Law in Washington

Unfair Competition Laws

Is there a law in Washington that is similar to California's Business & Professions code 17200 et. seq.? It essentially allows a plaintiff to act as a private attorney general. I've been looking for something similar in order to ascertain if I have an ''Unfair Competition'' case against a company, but I find that Washington's online legal database is not as useful as California's! Thanks in advance for any and all help.

There is a similar law in Washington, known as the state consumer protection law, which is designed to handle similar problems. It provides for attorney's fees and for up to treble damages, if someone is in violation of the act.

The reason you are having so much trouble finding the law on this is because, unlike in CA, so much of it is based on case law, not statute. WA has a consumer protection act (CPA) statute, which might apply here, but the case law also gives rise to various other claims, including tortious interference, stealing of trade secrets, and improper competition.

Chapter 19.86 RCW is the state Consumer Protection Act. This sounds like what you're looking for.
