Legal Question in Business Law in Washington
I informed my business partner I had accepted a job out of town. This requires me removing myself from the lease on office space we are renting. After our intial discussion about my new job he verbally agreed to let me go - so my business partner made numerous changes to the space including hiring a non licensed and bonded contractor to build multiple walls and doors. He also purchased numerous shelving units. I did not authorize any changes to the office space nor was I informed. A week later I asked for his signature to remove my name on the lease and he declined telling me he needed more time to think about it. Based on this information what do I tell him so he will sign the paper getting my name off the lease?

As a Franchise Attorney I can say this. Getting ;your "name off the lease" is between you and the landlord. Landlords don't typically do this unless there is another, well-funded guarantor ready to assume your lease obligations. Consult with a good business or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.
