Legal Question in Business Law in Washington
Non-release of equipment
Our company has several pieces of industrial equipment at a shop for repairs. We have no contract with the repair shop and their invoices to us are Net30. We have always paid on time or early. After we realized that we can get the same work done cheaper elsewhere, we informed the repair facility of our intend to remove our equipement. They now refuse to release the equipment unless we pay all our invoices immediately, even though according to the invoices (net 30) we have another three weeks to do so. Is it legal for them to hold our equipment hostage? Both companies involved are incorporated. Thank you.

Re: Non-release of equipment
Maybe yes, maybe no. But, do you really want to create a full blown legal controversy over a few weeks. Your best approach would be to just try to work it out.
