Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

car loan

In the court paper's in my divorce I was to get the car and it's payment. I could noy afford it for many reasons and it was repossed. Am I in contempe of court?

You are not in contempt of court, however, if your failure to keep up with the loan affects your ex in any way, such as if their name remained on the car loan, and the creditor comes after your ex, then your ex may be able to come after you for her damages in connection with defending themselves.

My best advice is to seek out a low cost or no fee legal service in your area and try to get a low cost or free consultation from someone who can look over the documents in your case and provide a legal opinion upon which you can rely, unlike what I am providing here, which is merely meant to give you a general idea.
