Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

Child Support when moving to another state

I am living in OR now, but will be moving to WA soon. I already have child support established through the courts in the state of OR. When I move, will I have to go through the process of reapplying in WA, or will it remain the same but just be handled by a different county? It took over 9 months the first time and being a single mother I really can not afford to wait another 9 months for the processing in WA. Thanks much.

Although I do not know the details of your case in Oregon and how you came about obtaining that order there, I would say that you do not need to do anything other than notify the Oregon agency that sends you a check about your new address to send you checks in the future.

If you ever have to modify or adjust your child support, then you may have to wind up filing in Washington, but it is also possible to seek the modification in Oregon, depending on where everyone lives and how long they have lived there. For now though, that goes beyond the scope of your question.
