Legal Question in Family Law in Washington
My husband pays 80% of out-of-pocket medical bills and other extra expenses for his son (like college application fees). His ex is required to supply a receipt for the expense, and he then has 30 days to reimburse her. She recently sent a copy of her Visa statement which showed a charge for a college application, which was $50, however the statement showed "pending" as to the amount cleared.
My question is: Does the Visa statement hold up as a receipt?
Thank you,
Keri Klayum

Dear Ms. Klayum:
I would say no, a pending charge is not a receipt for a charge. I suggest you politely write a note or e-mail and ask for a copy of the actual receipt, or an updated statement showing the charge went through. I am guessing that what was sent was an online receipt, since paper receipts do not show "pending" transactions. If so, it should be no problem to update the electronic statement and get a new one out to you.
