Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

I got married at a Seattle courthouse in January and last month I was putting some papers away for my husband. I came across a legal paper that looked like a debt collection that was addressed to Mr. and Mrs Jane Doe Masri, husband and wife. I was really confused because it was issued 2 years ago before we even met. He told me he had never been married but I don't understand why he would receive a bill that way. Any thoughts on if this is a standard way to collect a debt or if he is keeping something from me?

I think it is standard for collection agencies to address correspondence to a "Mr. and Mrs." since they have nothing to lose if they address a potential spouse, regardless of whether that spouse exists.

That said, it looks as if you are looking to answer a more basic question, which is whether your husband has been honest with you about prior marriages. If you do not want to confront him without more information, I suggest that you perform a name search for him on court databases or better yet, hire a private investigator to run a name check on him. If you can provide a social and driver's license, I think you'll get really accurate results and can probably get that information the same or following day for less than $100.
