obtaining tax info

ok this is going to sound odd , but i need to know if one spouse hires an attorney for irs, income, self-employment taxes, etc.. with out telling me do i NOT have the right to request to be involved and / or get copies or what ever it is i am requesting? from the lawyer? we are not in divorce proceedings nor have any papers that X cludes either spouse now or prior. or say i wanted to fire the person who is handling our (only income ever in our marriage) 's paperwork and handling our biz responsibilities regarding all paperwork and so forth? am i not legally right if i did fire that person myself? i cannot be that 'mis in formed'.. right? please , any one have real answers for me i would extremly appreciate it. in washington

From your question, I am not sure if the tax preparer or tax attorney you are inquiring about is preparing your jointly filed personal income taxes in addition to business taxes. If they prepare your personal taxes, then yes, you have a right to see them. If they are preparing your spouse's business taxes, and you are not a shareholder or partner or owner of said business, then no, you are not entitled to call up this lawyer and request copies of the files.

The same holds true for firing this person- yes on the personal taxes, but no on business taxes, unless you have an ownership interest in the business, and then it depends on how your ownership interest is structured.
