Legal Question in Immigration Law in Washington
My bestfriend is an illegal immigrant from mexico. He was brought to the US in 1993 at the age of 2. This was obviously done against his will since he was not able to make decisions for himself at that age. He does not know who brought him to the US and would not be able to provide any information about how he arrived here illegally in the first place. He slightly remembers living with people he did not know for a while in california untill his family arrived a while later. He has no criminal record and has not left the US since arriving in 1993. He has been enrolled in the public education system since he was in kindergarten. Is he eligible for a status change? or can he stay in the US legally while petitioning for citizenship? can you reccomend any good lawyers that will work for low cost or free in the Seattle WA area?
1 Answer from Attorneys
He is not eligible for a status change or a green card in USA. He is not eligible for USA citizenship. If apprehended by police or ICE, he will be referred to Immigration court for removal (deportation).
I understand that no one ever filed any petition for him or his parents, and he is a single man of 18 years of age.
If the Immigration Reform will ever happen in the future, he may have a chance, otherwise, his options are very limited.
