Legal Question in Immigration Law in Washington

I was dating a guy from Ghana. Who was here on a school visa We got married last yr and he is working on getting his Green Card now. But over the past few months Were not together anymore and I have no plans on trying to get back together with him! We both live in different states.

My question is if I stay Married to him so he can finish his getting his citizenship. Can I be charged with doing anything illegal?

On what stage is he in applying for his green card?

If he didn't obtain even a conditional green card yet, he may not be able to do so, if you are no longer living together, actually separated and reside in different States. There is always an interview at the USCIS office where both a husband and a wife must attend and should prove that their marriage is valid and bona fide, and they live together as a married couple.
