Legal Question in Immigration Law in Washington
A wonderful young man from Pakistan (who is going to a Christian university in the U.S.) and our daughter are planning on being married. He eventually would like to become a citizen. They are waiting to plan their marriage until they know the best course to proceed. I know there is a K-visa, but I understand that is for someone who is not in the U.S. already. He already has an F1 student visa for 5 years.
Can you give advice on the course to proceed?
Thank you very much.

Assuming that your daughter is a USA citizen, after marriage, he might be able to apply for a Green Card (permanent residency).
He can become a citizen of the United States only after becoming a permanent resident and then meeting all naturalization requirements after a certain number of years.
