Casino rallies in Olympia

Can a casino make one oe their cooks go to a rally for slot machines in Olympia on the cooks day off?They say they can and will suspend the cook for a day if they do not go to this rally?

It is probably illegal to do this, but as a practical matter, is it enforceable? If I were you I would start by calling the Department of Labor and Industries, then the newspapers. (There is also some risk of termination in retaliation for calling the newspapers, but this coercion is just too outrageous to ignore.)

Sorry I cannot give you a definitive answer, but the law is not very clear. I think it would be more clearly illegal if you were fired, but obviously you want to avoid that.
