Legal Question in Employment Law in Washington

After work hours a friend had an accident when coming to the store to purchase something she is a new permit only beginning driver 2 weeks while parking at the store she works at for 4 years and is union she hit the gas instead of the brake, ran into the the store. They suspenned her from work when she returned to work the following day! Can they really fire her for that it was not a work related matter just happened to be the store she worked at and shops?

If she is in a union, she should check with her union rep to see if she has any recourse. Absent some special protection in the collective bargaining agreement, yes, she can be terminated for driving her car into the store, even if unintentional and even if not during her working hours.
