Legal Question in Employment Law in Washington

Wrongfully Terminated

I have worked for a casino in washington for almost 1 year. I received no write-ups or disciplinary action. I was fired and given no reason. Is the legal?

Re: Wrongfully Terminated

It is probably legal.

If you are covered by a collective bargaining agreement, or if you have an employment contract of your own with the casino, the terms of that contract would determine whether you can be dismissed or not.

If you believe and can show that termination was for an illegal reason (discrimination based on your membership in a protected class, or retaliation for exercising your statutory rights, for example), then you might have a claim.

Otherwise, in Washington, and in most other states, the employer can let you go without a reason, I'm afraid.
