Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Washington

Lost a will that had not been recorded

My dad made a will, which was notarized, but not recorded. Since my father's death, I cannot find the original will, but I do have a copy. What can I do, as my family wishes to get matters finalized/settled. Family members have gone to an attorney, who is requesting the original will, which I cannot provide.

Thank you.

Re: Lost a will that had not been recorded

While having the original would be nice (and reduce attorney fees) a copy of the will can be submitted for approval during the probate process. However, additional affidavits submitted from the witnesses on the will and/or the beneficiaries and intestate heirs may be required. The attorney dealing with the estate, if any, should be able to assist you in this regard.
