Suspected of stealing Information

I work for a hotel as a reservationist at the front desk, I was checking in a guest and our policy when doing this is to verify the credit card being used does belong to them, we then tell the guest we are going to imprint it on the registration card they sign when they check in to a room. After this guest left the front desk area I went back to business as usual, after about 10-15 min. , I noticed taht I forgot to give back his credit card, it was still sitting in the imprint machine. I immediately tried to get a hold of the guest but theye where not in there room, I put the card in our money drawer for safe keeping till I could get a hod of him and give it back. Soon after he came to the desk asking for his card, I gave it to him of course along with an apology he snatched it away and went to his room, I called to his room adn apologized again , he said ok and I thought that was that. The next day he came down to check out and asked for my first and last name, he was going to turn me in to the police, he stated that I had enough time to take down any info I wanted from his card and use it.
