Legal Question in Family Law in Wisconsin
Paternity/Child Support
My fiance has been trying to get on his daughter's birth certificate since they broke up 4 years ago. She refuses, saying she wants $200/mo and him to pay his daughter's medical bills. We have 50 emails over the years detailing that she, in a nutshell, just wants the money and doesn't want him to have any rights. She is extremely manipulative & comes from a wealthy family, whereas him and I do not. We also do not have the $ for a lawyer to fight the long fight. We live 200 miles away from his daughter. The only time he is able to see his daughter is when he visits his mom, and she is watching his daughter (which happens frequently). He is not allowed to see his daughter without supervision when absolutely *nothing* has happened that would be a basis for that. I've known the mom, the dad, and the child since before the child was even a thought.
My question is this: Will we end up having to pay thousands of dollars in back child support? Is having these emails worth anything, or will it make him look desperate? He desperately wants to be in his daughter's life, but he just can't afford to pay huge amounts of back child support + attorney's fees because of 4 years worth of games.

Re: Paternity/Child Support
Back child support is unlikely, but before you file a legal action you can confirm that with the attorney who does the filing. Also, you could call your county child support agency to find out.
